Māori Mentor Unit
Te Kura Toi Tangata me te Te Huataki Waiora Māori Mentoring Unit
Te Kura Toi Tangata me te Te Huataki Waiora mentoring units are a roopū tautoko providing academic (eg. workshops), pastoral and procedural support to Faculty of Education and Faculty of Health, Sport and Human Performance Māori students.
Our kaiāwhina have completed the work that you are doing and are familiar with the faculties and University. The Takawaenga Māori coordinates this roopū which includes kaiāwhina. We provide academic and course advice, help with degree planning, guidelines for writing in te reo Māori and scholarship application sign offs. We also organise events such as BBQ, Inter-school sports (Hakinakina) and wānanga for Faculty of Education and Faculty of Health, Sport and Human Performance students.
Kaua e whakāma – don’t be shy – come and talk to us if you have any patai.

Nathan Rahui
Ngāti Whātua, Ngāpuhi Tēnā koutou katoa. Ko Nathan Rahui tōku ingoa. I am 22 years old from Whangarei. I’m currently in my third year at Waikato, studying a conjoint degree in a Bachelor of Secondary School Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts – with a major in English and a minor in Māori. I find my strong areas to be within essay structure – including grammar and comprehension. In my spare time, I love spending time with friends and whānau, catching up on tv shows/movies, going to the beach and being active. I look forward to working with other students to ensure the success of all Māori in 2017. Ngā mihi manahau!

I am an ex Te Tohu Paetahi student of the class 2015, and currently in my second year studying a Bachelor of Teaching Kakano Rua. Beyond my role as a student and Maaori mentor here at Te Whare Waananga o Waikato, I am also a father of three beautiful girls. My strengths are te reo Maaori (Waikato Tainui dialect) and assessment writing, furthermore, I have experience in the first year papers of the Kakano Rua programme. My interests consist of whaanau, music, and keeping active. It is an honour to have the opportunity to assist you in your journey to success, and I’m look forward to seeing Maaori thrive in this ever changing world. Mauri ora!
