Te Piringa Faculty of Law

Welcome to Te Piringa Faculty of Law

In 2023 all papers offered by the Faculty of Law will be available via flexi-learning, i.e when a lecture is presented in person it will simultaneously be available for students to connect to via Zoom, and that session will be recorded and made available to students if they can't connect to the lecture when it is presented.  Also at least one live tutorial/workshop, if that is part of the paper learning, will be made available to students to participate online.

The study and practice of law is exciting, challenging and extremely rewarding. This website will provide you with detailed information about the Waikato law programmes, career opportunities for graduates and the excellent facilities and extensive resources offered to students.

Practical skills teaching

Each year the five New Zealand law faculties compete in the National Law Students' Association Competitions, in client interviewing, witness examination, mooting, and negotiation - skills that are keenly sought after by employers.

Modern lawyers need good skills in communication, advocacy, and dispute resolution - so we have made these skills a key part of the Waikato Law degree.

Just as in a law court, the Secondary Schools' Mooting competition pits teams of "lawyers" against one another to argue a legal case before a judge.
