How the Te Puna Ako (CeTTL) team can help
Te Puna Ako - Centre for Tertiary Teaching and Learning is a central unit at the University. We support staff and students with teaching and learning across the University. If you're involved with teaching, here are some of the ways we can help you throughout the year.
Before your paper starts
- Discuss any design aspects of your paper, from paper outline, learning outcomes, assessments, activities or tech tools. Arrange a chat or ask for feedback via email.
- Check out our curated list of teaching-related info: policies and plans related to teaching at the University of Waikato.
- Get help with your Moodle page setup (or use our self-help eLearning resources).
- Encourage your tutors to attend our training for sessional assistants.
During your paper
- Talk to us about how to optimise your marking and feedback - contact cettladmin@waikato.ac.nz to organise a one-on-one consultation with one of our Learning Designers.
- Send your students to Student Learning for study help or to our eTuts for tech help - your students can book a time here.
- Request a Student Learning tutor to provide a workshop or wraparound study support for your students, including co-teaching of skills or co-facilitation of workshops targeted to specific assignments. Email slsadmin@waikato.ac.nz
- Refer your students to opportunities such as the:
- Academic integrity module
- English Conversation Circles or
- Developing Research Skills Workshops for thesis students.
- Request support for teaching technologies from an eTut (e.g. to support using online teaching tools like Zoom or Panopto, or to orient you to AV technology in a physical teaching space).
- Request a teaching observation to identify teaching strengths and provide a comment for your teaching portfolio or partner with a peer.
- Discuss how to incorporate ongoing student feedback in your papers and increase response rates in student evaluations.
After your paper
- Meet with our Evaluations team or one of our Learning Designers to reflect on your paper and interpret student evaluation data.
- Develop and get feedback on your teaching portfolio (for promotion, awards or HEA/HERDSA Fellowship applications).
- Share your practice at Te Puna Aurei LearnFest, our annual higher learning symposium.
And throughout the year
- Ask us anything, drop into an AMA session for advice about teaching strategies or technology. Weekdays 9 - 10 am and 3 - 4 pm. Zoom link: waikato.ac.nz/go/AMA
- Book a one-on-one consultation with one of our Learning Designers to discuss any aspect of your teaching practice, use of teaching technologies, or paper design, by contacting cettladmin@waikato.ac.nz
- Attend one of our regular workshops or request a bespoke workshop for your group.
- Develop and gain formal recognition for your teaching skills through the PGCert in Tertiary Teaching & Learning, a flexible programme, with papers exploring topics such as:
- Introduction to tertiary teaching and assessment (for new staff)
- Integrating Kaupapa Māori
- Inclusive teaching
- Curriculum and course design
- Online and blended learning
- Postgraduate supervision
- Work-integrated learning
- Internationalising higher education
- and many others
- Consider researching and publishing on your teaching - we can support you at each stage of the research process, from design to publication. Contact cettladmin@waikato.ac.nz to get started.
- New in 2022: Take part in a Teaching Partnership - develop an aspect of your teaching practice with the support of colleagues while giving reciprocal support.
