Eight programmes to choose from
At Waikato, we offer eight engineering degree programmes including civil engineering, mechanical engineering and mechatronics. These qualifications are internationally accredited which means they are recognised around the world.
You don’t have to decide on your preferred programme until completing your first trimester of studies, giving you time to get a little taste of each discipline so you can make an informed decision.
Jump Start your entry into first year this January
Passionate about pursuing engineering but don’t have the necessary NCEA Level 3 credits in Calculus or Physics? We offer two papers through the Jump Start Programme starting late January designed especially for prospective engineering students.
Fast Track Graduate Programme
If you have a relevant degree, you may be able to complete a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) over two years through our accelerated Fast Track graduate programme.
Ready for the next level?
Masters of Engineering is a research-focused degree designed for graduates who wish to do further research. Excellence in advanced engineering design, research and development skills are core features of the degree.

Gain a unique business edge
Waikato engineering students can gain a unique business edge by concurrently studying towards a Diploma in Engineering Professional Practice with the Waikato Management School.
This qualification equips graduates with enhanced business management expertise in preparation of rapid progression into management and leadership positions.

Our Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) students complete 800 hours of work placement – usually paid - within their degrees, supported by our dedicated Work Integrated Learning team. Often this results in a permanent job when they finish their studies.
Start your studies in either Hamilton or Tauranga
You can start your engineering degree in either Hamilton or Tauranga. Our Tauranga students benefit from smaller class sizes and new, state-of-the-art facilities in our award-winning building located in the heart of the Tauranga CBD.

Held over two days in October and open to the public, our world-class Engineering Design Show is the flagship event of the Waikato School of Engineering and the high-point of our degree programmes. Pop along and see first-hand how our final-year students are excelling in designing, building and testing new products, structures and solutions for the real world.
