This paper provides an introduction to academic research methodologies and writing for students for whom English is an additional language. The paper addresses the social, linguistic, and textual conventions and organisation of research writing, as well as the skills involved. Students will explore a range of genre and disciplinary differences in research writing. The topics within the paper include writing about methods, reviewing and writing about literature, reporting findings, and structuring discussion sections.
