Ko te tāhū kōrero o te rā ka kīia ake ko Te Manawaroa kia toitū te whare, kia toitū te tangata, kia toitū te tauwāhi.
Nō mātou te whiwhi i ngā kaikōrero matua, arā, ko Kereama Hoete ki Tauranga Moana ā, ko Te Aorere Pēwhairangi rāua ko Kimiora Kaire-Melbourne ki Kirikiriroa.
We welcome one and all to this years Kīngitanga Day celebrated at The University of Waikato happening on 14 September.
The theme for this year addresses resilience; resilient institutions, resilient people, resilient place in which both The University and Kīngitanga have in common, amongst other attributes.
We're honoured to present our keynote speakers - Kereama Hoete aka Mr G for Tauranga Moana campus with Te Aorere Pēwhairangi and Kimiora Kaire-Melbourne tag teaming in for our Hamilton campus.
Keynote Speakers Profile
Te Aorere Pēwhairangi & Kimiora Kaire-Melbourne
Te Aorere (Ngāti Porou) is a cultural and reo advisor, television presenter and te reo Māori sports commentator and more recently has become more prominent for his work in the online social media space. Earlier this year, Te Aorere brought awareness to the damage Cyclone Gabrielle inflicted on the East Coast communities through his fundraising initiative, Waewae the 35.
Kimiora (Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahungunu) is a Director/Producer and founder of Te Imurangi Media. She is passionate about promoting Māori stories from a distinctly Māori worldview. She recently produced the award winning series Homesteads which explored the culturally significant role homesteads have played in maintaining and strengthening Māori ties to their tūrangawaewae.
Te Aorere and Kimiora graduated with their Masters of Indigenous Studies in Māori Broadcasting from the University of Waikato.
Kereama Hoete (Mr G)
Kereama Hoete (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui and Ngāti Awa) aka Mr G is a Māori contemporary multi-disciplinary artist and designer from Aotearoa. He's widely known for his artworks and murals, particularly those located in Tauranga Moana.
In addition to this work as a multi-disciplinary artist, Kereama is actively involved in promoting the recognition and preservation of Māori culture. He has worked with schools and youth organisations to encourage the use of Te Reo and tikanga Māori, and has collaborated with other artists and cultural leaders to create projects that showcase Toi Māori.

Integrating Kaupapa Māori |
A paper delivered by Te Puna Ako, the Centre of Tertiary Teaching and Learning (CeTTL), provides an introduction to kaupapa Māori as an indigenous knowledge framework and encourages examination and evaluation of existing learning programmes in terms of bi-cultural integration. The discussion will include a panel of current participants in the programme. Te Puna Ako's paper introduces Māori knowledge framework, prompts review of learning programs for bi-cultural integration. The panel discussion features current participants. |
