Tauranga Student Health
Our Tauranga students have access to a range of different services, both onsite and offsite to ensure that they are safe and healthy; physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.
On-site Services
On-site, students have access to a student health nurse, chaplain, violence prevention coordinator and health promotion coordinator. Find out more about these services below.

Our Student Health Nurse is available on campus to give advice and support to students including Tauranga-based international students. The nurse covers a range of services including, but not limited to:
- Support for students with mental health concerns
- Prescriptions for contraception, emergency contraception, sexual health issues, and wounds
- Smears
- Health screening (asthma, blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks)
- Treatment of minor wounds
- Smoking cessation
- Referrals to physiotherapy, dentist, eye specialist, doctors and counselling.

Our Student Health Nurse has a background in working in mental health and has experience in working with students with mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression as well as assessing for ongoing mental health care. She can access care for all students including for Māori and Pacific health support, and make referrals to Hauora for mental health support around Tauranga.
Mental Health Nurse
One of our Mental Health & Wellbeing team Registered Nurses is available on the Tauranga campus on the first Friday of each month for in-person appointments. See the Student Health Nurse for a referral..
You can have a virtual appointment with our Mental Health & Wellbeing team who are based at our Hamilton campus.
Brother Andrew (Ecumenical) visits the Tauranga campus during term time. He can be found in The Hub, Level 1.
If you have concerns or seek information, advice, or support in relation to harassment, abuse, and/or violence, please go to the Violence Prevention page for more information. This page provide students with information, advice, support and advocacy, help to access services, safety planning or a referral to see a medical professional, counselors, or the Police (with your consent) by calling or emailing.
If a physical or sexual assault has just occurred, please ring 111 and ask for the Police.

Chadwick Healthcare has four medical centres working underneath it. The closest one to the University is Chadwick Healthcare South City located on Cameron Road. There are also other sites at Bethlehem, Tauriko, and Greerton. Please go to the one that you find the most convenient.
Tauranga students need to enrol with Chadwick Healthcare before using their service. Before making an appointment to see the Doctor, contact the Student Health Nurse to obtain a voucher. The cost of the Doctors visit will then only be $10.

Epic Medical Centre is a 5 minute walk from the Tauranga campus. It is a small practice with two Doctors. Tauranga students need to enrol with Epic Medical Centre before using their service. The cost of a Doctor’s visit is only $10.

- Everyday medications
- Complex cases
- Sexual assault care
- Neurological disorders
- Anxiety and Depression

We understand that sometimes it is not easy to decide to come to counselling, but it is a positive step in helping yourself. Counsellors can help you with a range of problems including relationships, mental health and grief issues.
University of Waikato students are able to use Bay Counselling & Therapy Services. Every student is entitled to five free sessions per year. Ensure you say you are a University of Waikato student when you make your booking, and take your Student ID card with you.

Body in Motion offers a physiotherapy clinic for students. This service is free for accident-related injuries (covered by ACC), or a small cost if the issue is ongoing.
Students can go to Body in Motion clinics in Te Paeroa Road, Bethlehem or Girven Road, Mount Maunganui. See the Student Health Nurse for a referral.

Discounts
All students are encouraged to get a Community Services Card (CSC) to help reduce the costs of healthcare. The Community Services Card can:
- Decrease costs for Doctors visits
- Decrease prescription costs
- Decrease ACC visit costs
Always carry your card to reap the benefits.
