Become a teacher
Early Childhood Education Teaching (BTchg/GradDipTchg)
Study Teaching (Early Childhood) to create a career working in a variety of childhood setting with children from birth up to six years old. This can be done through the three-year undergraduate BTchg or one-year postgraduate GradDipTchg.
Bachelor of Teaching in Primary (BTchg)
The three-year BTchg (Primary) prepares you for a career working in primary, middle and intermediate schools.
Secondary School Teaching (GradDipTchg/PGDipTchg/MTchgLn)
To teach at a secondary school level you need to first have an undergraduate degree in your relevant field and then complete one of our one-year qualifications.
Te Ara Poutama Toitū Te Reo (TTR)
This is a pathway specifically targeting those who want to pursue a Bachelor of Teaching in Māori Medium. Whether you are interested in Early Childhood, Primary or Secondary, this is the qualification that will get you there. Depending on your preferred area of teaching you can be qualified in three to four and a half years.
Teacher Aide Course (TAIDE)
This nine week course, for current Teacher Aides and those in a Learning Support role, enhances knowledge and skills around building relationships, collaborating with teachers and differentiating support for your learners.
