Why study the Master of Management?

If you want to kick-start a professional career in supply chain management, our Master of Management (MMgmt) degree provides an ideal springboard to achieve your goals.

This one-year course is ideal for recent university graduates with a bachelor's degree in any field, or people in the early to mid stages of their career who aspire to become a supply chain/logistics manager.

The Master of Management is taught face-to-face at our campus in Hamilton, or you have the option of studying online through FLEXI papers. It normally requires full-time study over three consecutive trimesters (12 calendar months).

This course will develop your ability to succeed in complex, competitive and culturally diverse business situations, both in New Zealand and other countries. It involves a combination of lectures, group work, case studies, tutorials and discussions.

Masters graduates are highly sought after by employers, offering you a significant advantage in terms of job prospects, salary potential and rapid career advancement.

Course content

Part One is comprised of four core management papers that  provide a broader global business context for your learning, so you can confidently handle a wide range of management issues.

For example, you will learn about leading teams of people and managing change; seizing new market opportunities; responding to competitive threats; the impact of global market forces on our economy; and using key financial data to make business decisions.

Students will also gain an understanding of how to create and run businesses that are both profitable and sustainable; good for social and environmental wellbeing, as well as the bottom line.

In Part Two you will choose four papers focused on building knowledge in your specialist subject of Supply Chain Management, with the introduction of more advanced ideas.

  • Supply Chain Management graduates will be adept at solving complex business problems, with the skills and techniques to design, develop and manage domestic or global supply chains.

Part Three provides opportunities to apply your skills through a High Impact Applied Project, which is designed to pull all your learning together and prepare you for employment.

All MMgmt students will be supported to find a suitable workplace internship or an applied research project with a host organisation.

You will also complete a cultural perspectives paper that examines workplace situations with diverse cultural values and practices, including case studies of Māori businesses.

No research dissertation is required, as the Master of Management is entirely focused on practical application of skills and knowledge.

The city also has a 480-hectare distribution and manufacturing hub under construction  near the university, which will provide importers and exporters with direct rail access to shipping services in Auckland and Tauranga.
