Greg Jansen

Greg Jansen is currently an educational consultant / trainer working across the education sector throughout New Zealand and internationally, focusing on developing strong teaching and learning relationships through developing relational capacity and the use of restorative  practices.  This ranges from specific skill training for teachers and students across the continuum of restorative approaches, through to school strategic and leadership development and whole school change. This work is spread across the educational sector – from Early Childhood Education & Primary to Secondary and Tertiary Education, from State or Integrated through to Private, Special Character and Area schools. This extensive and varied work has given an incredible opportunity to strengthen practice and evaluate programmes, and to develop and share best practice.

Greg has a wealth of experience both teaching and leading within and beyond mainstream education, with extensive involvement leading and managing Te Ora Hou (Youth Work) and Te Kaupapa Whakaora (Alternative Education). Within mainstream education Greg has many wide and varied experiences of classroom teaching – pastoral and leadership roles and uses these experiences to contextualise content so to maximise learning and develop the capacity of those he works with.

Greg and Rich developed the Canterbury Restorative Network that provided practice support and networking opportunities for practitioners across the Canterbury – West Coast region. They also developed the RESTORE newsletter that was distributed nationally for 4 years.

Greg and Rich have worked extensively with clusters of schools and organisations across New Zealand helping them to develop their practice and networks of support. Greg along with Rich are sought after Conference presenters, for their practical, accessible and progressive approaches. In 2009, Greg completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership through which he researched the impact of school leadership on the implementation of school wide restorative practices. Greg and Rich are contributing authors of Responsive Pedagogy – Engaging Restoratively with Challenging Behaviour. 

Greg is a member of the National Board of Restorative Justice Aotearoa (RJA) and sits on the Reference Group for the Chair of Restorative Justice Practices, Chris Marshall, at Victoria University. Since 2008 Greg and Rich have been providing training and consultation internationally – primarily in Singapore and Malaysia.
