Te Ahikāroa Subject regulations
The Te Ara Hou Te Ahikāroa (TA) - Graduate Diploma in Teaching is available for the Māori immersion secondary sector for students who have completed a bachelors degree and who wish to gain a professional teaching qualification, as well as non graduates with some educational qualifications, work experience or relevant workplace experience.
Recognition of prior learning will be required.
This programme will be delivered as an Employment-Based Initial Teacher Education (EBITE) programme in 2023, to be completed in 2024.

TA This is a two year professional qualification delivered in te reo Māori with a focus on tikanga Māori and mātauranga Māori. It comprises papers examining issues related to teaching specialist learning areas of the curriculum, in particular Pūtaiao and Pāngarau, learners and learning, and the professional issues facing teachers in classroom, school and community situations. The programme includes two professional experience placements.
The qualification regulations define the requirements for the Te Ara Hou Te Ahikāroa. To complete the TA, students must complete TOITU400, PUTOI400, PUTOI421, PUTOI422, PUTOI423, PUTOI424, PUTOI425, NGAIO420, and NGAIO421.
